Maarif School is accepting applications for a full-time janitor for the 2027–2028 academic year at our new campus in Wayne, New Jersey.
We are seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented individual to maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of our school facilities, ensuring a healthy and organized environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous janitorial, custodial, or building maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment, including vacuums and floor-cleaning machines.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage assigned tasks efficiently.
- Dependable, punctual, and capable of working independently while following instructions.
- Good communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with school staff.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Availability to work assigned shifts and assist with occasional school events or special cleaning needs.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and common areas.
- Perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and trash removal.
- Maintain restroom cleanliness and replenish soap, paper products, and other supplies.
- Clean windows, doors, furniture, floors, and other surfaces according to established schedules.
- Perform periodic deep cleaning, carpet cleaning, and floor maintenance.
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and unexpected cleaning needs.
- Follow proper sanitation, infection-control, and workplace safety procedures.
- Inspect facilities and report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, and safety hazards.
- Perform minor authorized maintenance tasks and basic facility repairs when trained.
- Assist with room setups, cleaning, and preparations for school events and meetings.
- Support seasonal cleaning projects and school preparation before and after the academic year.
- Properly store and secure cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Assist with securing designated building areas according to school procedures.
- Maintain cleaning records and report supply needs when required.
- Work collaboratively with school administration and staff to maintain a clean and organized campus.
- Perform other custodial and facility-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Custodial experience in a school, childcare facility, or similar environment.
- Experience operating commercial cleaning and floor-maintenance equipment.
- Familiarity with sanitation procedures, workplace safety, and chemical storage.
- Basic building maintenance and minor repair skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to unexpected facility needs.
- Experience assisting with school events and seasonal facility preparation.
